World's Ugliest Dog |

Petaluma, CA - L'il Sam, the 14-year-old Chinese Crested, wrinkled, hairless, and pale-eyed dog from Santa Barbara, took home the title of World's Ugliest Dog last June at the Sonoma-Marin Fair's annual World's Ugliest Dog Contest. L'il Sam, owned by Susie Lockheed, has since passed away. Second place in World's Ugliest Dog Contest, went to Munchkin, a small but fluffy pup with an oddly gated, wiggly walk. Munchkin is owned by Yvonne Morones of Santa Rosa. Third place went to Rascal, another Chinese hairless, owned by Dane Andrew of San Anselmo. The contest selects an Ugliest Purebred and an Ugliest Mutt for 2005, before selecting the Ugliest Dog of 2005 from those two winners. Then, the Ugliest Dog of 2005 competes against any and all returning World's Ugliest Dog from previous years in what is called The Ring Of Champions. Jedi, the Chinese Crested owned by 9-year-old Katarina Anderson of Guerneville, took home the title of the year's Ugliest Purebred for the second year in a row -- a title swayed largely by the dog's and owner's matching 'hair-do's'. Munchkin, a mixed breed mutt, owned by Yvonne Morones, won the Ugliest Mutt for 2005 and went on to win the 2005 Ugliest Dog Title. Phoenix, a black Labrador from Petaluma, won the Crazy Dog Tricks competition - by spelling, counting and responding to commands in German. Runners up in the pedigree class were Elvis, a bull dog, owned by Michele & Brian Martin from Petaluma, second place, and Boggie, another bull dog, owned by Katrina Quayle of Rohnert Park, third. Runners up in the mutt class were Tator Tot, owned by Susie Lockheed of Santa Barbara, second place, and Rachel, owned by Zach Cohen from Graton. Runners up in the Crazy Dog Tricks Competition were Amigo, the dancing Chihuahua, owned by Yvonne Morones, second place; and Tags & Boo, owned by Ellen Perlson of Petaluma, third place for synchronized dancing.
